Kolkata Double murder case: The murder of Subir Chaki, the managing director of Kolkata’s leading engineering firm Kilburn Engineering, and his driver is yet to be resolved. During the investigation, the police have indicated the involvement of an acquaintance of the victim in the murder case. Along with this, the police is also looking at this murder by linking it to the property dispute.
On Tuesday, the police had also questioned some employees of Chaki in the matter. The Kolkata Police took a sniffer dog to the scene, took the officers to the Ballygunge railway station, less than a kilometer away, and the dog climbed over the over bridge and went to a platform. In such a situation, it is being told that someone may have come home on Sunday or may have landed at the station to board the train earlier.
Their bodies were found on Monday morning with several knife marks inside Chaki’s ancestral house on Kankulia Road under Gariahat police station area of South Kolkata. Chaki’s body was lying on the first floor while the driver’s body was lying on the second floor. Subir Chaki, 61, lived with his wife and mother-in-law in New Town on the city’s eastern outskirts and owned a property in a posh south Kolkata condominium. It is being told that he was trying to sell the old three-storey building for many years. Residents of Kankulia Road informed the police about this. It is said that when some buyers had come to see the property, Subir Chaki sent 64-year-old Mandal with the keys.
Kolkata Police did not officially share any information with the media. Chaki’s car was found on the road outside the building. Many food packets and some legal documents have been found inside the car. Chaki’s family members told the police that he had called them on Sunday evening and talked about the necessary repair work in the house. His phone was switched off at around 7 pm. Mandal’s phone was also switched off. Police is checking the call list.
Subir Chaki, who studied at St. Xavier’s School, Kolkata, IIT Kharagpur and IIM Kolkata, worked for many well-known companies. His son lives in London while daughter lives in Bangalore.
